Course description
Heritage corridors across the CLMV region, from the Angkor temple complex in Cambodia to many other cultural and natural heritage sites, are attracting rapidly growing visitor numbers. This growth brings important revenue but also raises major challenges for conservation, community benefit sharing and carrying capacity management without an appropriate plan.
The course has seven chapters, moving from why sustainable tourism matters, through conservation principles for cultural and natural heritage, community-based tourism, destination carrying capacity management, destination marketing and cross-border route linkages, to service quality standards and visitor safety. Each chapter includes a video lecture, an in-depth reading and a short quiz.
The content is practice-oriented, grounded in the cultural and natural heritage sites common across Cambodia and the CLMV region, with concrete tools and processes that managers, businesses and communities can apply right away.
