Laos is stepping up efforts to develop its agro-processing industry, aiming to shift away from exporting raw agricultural commodities towards higher-value processed goods.

[Bộ Công Thương Lào] said new incentives will target investors setting up processing facilities for crops such as coffee, cassava and bananas, which currently make up a large share of unprocessed exports.

Định hướng chính sách

The policy includes tax incentives for processing facilities located near production areas, as well as support for smallholder cooperatives to meet quality standards required by export markets.

  • Ưu đãi thuế cho cơ sở chế biến gần vùng nguyên liệu
  • Hỗ trợ hợp tác xã đáp ứng tiêu chuẩn chất lượng xuất khẩu
  • Thu hút đầu tư vào chế biến sâu nông sản

Officials expect the shift towards processed exports to create additional jobs in rural areas and increase the value captured domestically from agricultural production.

The initiative is seen as complementary to broader CLMV efforts to strengthen regional supply chains in agro-processing.
