Viet Nam provides technical support for Mekong basin flood early warning system
Viet Nam is providing technical support to downstream Mekong countries in building flood early warning systems that combine monitoring data with forecasting models.

Viet Nam is providing technical support to several localities within the Mekong River basin to build flood early warning systems that combine monitoring data with hydrological forecasting models.
The support, carried out by [Bộ Nông nghiệp và Môi trường Việt Nam] under a regional technical cooperation framework, focuses on areas that are regularly affected by seasonal flooding.
System components
The system includes a network of automated water-level sensors, forecasting modelling software, and direct warning channels to local authorities and residents in at-risk areas.
- Automated water-level sensor network
- Flood modelling and forecasting software
- Direct warning channels to communities
Experts involved in the project said combining data from multiple countries in the basin will help improve the accuracy of early warning bulletins.
Results from this technical cooperation are expected to be shared at upcoming Mekong cooperation forums.
